BRRRRR.....

Another joy of home ownership... the furnace has gone out on the first snow day of the winter. Terry woke up to a chilly house. The furnace guy came out this afternoon. Apparently, the furnace hadn't been properly maintained. The burners are rusty and the exhaust for the boiler is plugged up. The carbon monoxide exhaust was being spewed into the basement. Thank God the basement was drafty enough to let it escape. We could have all died. Also, the furnace didn't have the proper backflow preventer valve to keep the water from the boiler from backing up into our drinking water. So, the furnace guy is working on an estimate for the installation of what Terry calls "anti-savings account devices", a.k.a, new burners, a backflow preventer valve, a water temperature control valve, a water level control valve, and a good cleaning of the whole system. Good thing we chopped all that firewood last Fall. Terry insisted we have a firewood savings account which we now are using. Hopefully we'll be able to get the furnace fixed soon.
